Heritage

Antonis’ connection to music dates back to the 1930s. His grandparents taught classical piano at the National Conservatory of Athens, and his grandmother Katina Skokou was his first teacher.

His father played drums in The Forminx, the legendary Greek band that included the Academy Award-winning composer Vangelis - known to the world for Blade Runner and Chariots of Fire.

The godfather of Antonis's father was Dimitri Mitropoulos, the conductor of the New York Philharmonic. Music wasn't a choice in this family - it was the air everyone breathed.

Education

Antonis began studying piano at the age of six and trained at the Athens Conservatory in theory, harmony, counterpoint and fugue, alongside jazz, improvisation and music for theatre and cinema.

In 1992 he was awarded the four-year Onassis Foundation scholarship, which took him to Paris. There he completed his classical training at the Schola Cantorum de Paris, studying composition, orchestration and conducting under Patrice Sciortino, a student of Stravinsky.

He graduated with the Golden Prize and received the Silver Medal from the school’s Honorary President, the composer Henri Dutilleux.

03

Career

After his studies, Antonis worked as classical piano teacher and choir arranger at the Conservatoire de Gennevilliers, composed jingles for French TV and Radio France, and arranged for groups across pop, funk, jazz and R&B.

Returning to Greece in 1997, he began three decades of work as conductor, arranger, pianist and musical director with the country's leading artists. He served as musical director on flagship television productions including Aftí Eínai i Zoí Sou (ANT1), the Greek adaptation of Singing Bee on SKAI, and Amstel Live, produced by Marc Jansen, who later produced The Voice in the United States. Earlier credits include musical direction on Oti Kalytero (MEGA), 12 with Nikos Mastorakis (ALPHA), and jingle composition for Mporo with Anna Drouza.

Today he composes for film, television and large-scale live events across Los Angeles, Athens and international productions, conducts live concert programmes as orchestra director, and continues to compose concert works.
